Used for PMS and menopausal changes. May help reduce some of the undesirable symptoms such as hot flashes and hormonally-related constipation. It has the effect of stimulating and normalizing pituitary gland functions, especially its progesterone function. Research has indicated that vitex has a direct effect on the corpus luteum, thereby increasing progesterone and helping to balance estrogen. Has also helped with acne associated with PMS.
Rare side effects include itching, rashes gastrointestinal distress and early menstruation.
