Description: This perennial herb is commercially grown as a popular condiment, aromatic stimulant and a remedy against malaria. The aroma is spicy, sharp, warm and pleasant, with a hint of lemon and pepper. It sharpens the senses and aids memory. Very useful for tiredness. The essential oil consists of borneol, citral, cineole, zingiberene camphene, limonene, among others. Some uses in aromatherapy are for: influenza, colds, nausea, hangover, travel and sea sickness; stimulates circulation and warming oil. Its analgesic properties help relieve arthritic and rheumatic pains, as well as sprains and muscle spasms, especially in the lower back. Long hailed as an aphrodisiac.
